Oracle DBA

Senior Oracle DBA is responsible for maintaining and implementing database related activities, security and establishes policies & procedures for complex database management against agreed SLAs to ensure database service availability and reliability.

General Accountabilities

  • Operate effectively with minimal supervision and within a clear accountability framework. 

  • Active role as subject matter expert as Oracle DBA for 18c, 12c and 11gR2 and other database specialize areas.

  • Liaise with Database Service Engineer on formalization/documentation of processes, procedures, standards, guidelines, template solutions, etc. 

  • Provide Oracle DBA specific services to other parts of the organization such as Service Engineering and other Run & Maintain teams. 

  • Use of end-to-end ITIL processes and tools in order to manage incidents, changes, assets, and service interruptions. 

  • Promoting use of end-to-end processes such as incident management, change management, and situation management.

  • Ensure appropriate escalation actions are taken, using the global tools and processes available.

  • Involved in any operational changes to the service, organization, tools and processes. 

  • Interface with other parts of the Hosting & Storage delivery organization in an open and constructive way. 

  • Asset Management: contribute to a 100% accurate administration of supported assets, agreed service levels and billing. 

  • Work to solve problems, produce documentation, and share learning with counterpart teams. 

  • Participate in on-call pager rotation for reactive support and respond to monitoring alerts in a timely manner.

  • Ensure that work is properly documented and saved in a central repository according to specific service guidelines. 

  • Maintain a high level of Customer Satisfaction. 

  • Conveys goals and objectives clearly, interprets customers’ requirement and implement the expected service delivery. 

  • Services impact: high indirect accountability; downtime of database services would have major potential impact on the customer’s business.


Job Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • ITSM foundation training required.

  • Preferred with certified in Oracle Database.

Technical Skills

  • 3+ years of experience in a multi-disciplined IT environment with strong background in service delivery, operational support, and proactive management. 

  • 5+ years of experience with Oracle RAC DBA.

  • 10+ years of experience in an IT function.

  • Excellent technical knowledge of Oracle 18c/12c/11gR2, Oracle RAC 11gR2/11gR1 on Linux and UNIX. Accreditations like Oracle Certified Professional are a plus.

  • Experience with Oracle single node cluster.

  • Experience with integration and support of backup software (Net Backup, RMAN). 

  • Experience with Oracle database migrations upgrades and patching.

  • Experience in resolving complex database performance and application issues.

  • Oracle Database Tuning and Performance - usage of statspack, AWR, ADDM, ASH and UNIX native commands. 

  • Oracle DataGuard Physical Standby configuration, build and support including DataGuard Broker. 

  • Having knowledge of MSSQL / MYSQL / DB2UDB database is plus.

  • Storage considerations for Oracle Database Performance.

  • Oracle backup and recovery configuration and procedures.

  • Oracle Enterprise Manager/Grid Control for environment standardization.

  • Understanding of server and storage technology, especially in the area of High Availability. 

  • Provide support to Customer application teams for database design.

  • Support Customer application teams in performance tuning activities.

  • Data gathering and analysis skills (for the internal performance monitoring and Service Level management).

  • Proven experience working within incident, problem and change management programs and developing maintenance plans related to storage environments is preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with fellow team members, fellow GITI teams both regionally and globally, customer project resources for project-type activities, and various customer and customer segment representatives.
